WHO WE ARE

Ovidia was born in Mantua from a passion for Natural and Quality, but also from a strong attachment to the Territory. Mantua, in fact, is also known as the City of Lotus Flowers and that is why this flower’s extract is featured in all the products. In the months of July and August the 3 lakes that embrace Mantua explode with colors thanks to the blooming of Lotus Flowers that has no equal in size in the world, except in Japan.
The Lotus Flower extract, with its calming and refreshing properties, is the main ingredient of the products that make up Ovidia's Face and Body lines.

For Buddhists the Lotus Flower is connected to the concept of purity of soul and body, a symbol of spiritual elevation that derives from the fact that the Lotus Flower, while rooted in mud, is able to remain pure and untouched and thrive even in harsh conditions. Moreover, its peculiarity to open its corolla during the day and close at night symbolizes regeneration and life force.

WHY THE NAME OVIDIA

Ovid, in the third book of his "Ars Amandi", refers readers to another work composed by him: the "Medicamina faciei feminaea", of which only a fragment of a hundred verses remains today. Ovid consecrates his couplets to the exaltation of feminine beauty and to the care of it, to the refined expedients and tricks that allow to keep love awake. The term "Medicamina" refers indeed to beauty products, makeup and cosmetic preparations that women and girls must learn to use. Ovid presents himself, therefore, as a "beauty guru" of the ancient times, providing women with refined precepts on the use of cosmetics and all those tricks that can restore natural defects or the signs of time. Through the "Medicamina faciei femmineae", Ovid thus becomes the spokesman of the artisan recipes and beauty advice of an elegant and cultured civilization, dedicated to the care of elegance and refinement of forms and his manual of cosmetic art becomes a mirror of the rich Augustan society.
